JAIM (J for John, A for Amy, I for Iris & M for Magnus) started with a simple observation at home. Our son, Magnus, would spend hours building a masterpiece during the day, only for it to sit in the dark on his shelf once the sun went down.

Bedtime wasn't always easy, either. Like a lot of kids, Magnus often felt a bit anxious as the day wound down, lying in bed staring at a plain, boring light before slowly falling asleep. We wanted to find a way to bring his creations to life while turning that tricky pre-bedtime window into something peaceful.

As a father, I set out to design a lamp kit guided by three simple ideas:

• A quieter way to unwind: Replacing bedtime friction with a calm, tactile routine. Sitting down to build a quick design gives busy minds a quiet focus, easing bedtime anxiety into a relaxing evening ritual.
  
  
• Decor, on or off: Creating something that looks like a genuine piece of room art whether the light is switched on or off—changing the whole dynamic and warmth of the room at any hour of the day.
  
  
• A design that grows with them: Shifting seamlessly from a cozy nightstand light for a young child to a cool study desk setup for a teenager—adapting to every new passion, obsession, and chapter as they grow up.

After dozens of prototypes and many late nights in our Bath workshop, the JAIM Buildable Lamp was born.

Today, every single lamp base is assembled by us right here in Bath. We are lifelong fans of building block design, and we believe that no matter how old we get, we should never lose that creative spark.
